A Diatribe Against Haruhiism

Note: This does not concern the fictional character known as Suzumiya Haruhi. She may be cute, but she is a tsundere, and you all know my policy on tsunderes :V (for those of you not in the know, I think tsunderes should be raped :V)
As you all have known, DM has this silly project where he tries (and as of this afternoon, has suceeded) in trying to preserve an icon of this silly little cult called Haruhiism. (Yahoo now officially sucks. Don’t use Yahoo Search EVER.)

And his reason? He thinks we should preserve what is more commonly known as one of the stupidest acheivements known to humankind (and by the way, they’ve got it all wrong.): The formation of this asinine little cult.

And now, this retarded excuse of a religion will now be preserved forever all because of the repeated efforts of one stupid FANBOY. ANd every stupid FANBOY like him will now laud his efforts as if he scaled Mount Fucking Everest. (and as a side note, you DO get paid to climb Mount Everest. And if you reach the summit, you become famous :V)

Worse still, he’s educated in the Singapore equivalent of bloody Oxford, Yale, yaddayaddayadda. He, by all respects, would be the last person on Earth to pull off this idiotic stunt. Because even though he’s may be stupid enough to pull off this stunt, he’s supposed to have the common sense not to fall into the trap of worshipping a heathen idol. Quite simply put, no matter how awesome a character is, one should have the good sense to not try to go on the defensive when his/her favorite character is being insulted. The only thing I see/get whenever I say “Suzumiya Häruhi sucks” is the equivalent of “OMFG YOU INSULTED OUR GODDESS PREPARE TO GET FLAMED/DIE LOLOLOL”, rather than the equivalent of “And do you have the evidence to back it up?” And they think their boorish attitudes and empty threats can sway everyone in their favor. Well, let me tell you this: it only makes YOU a bigger target of prejudice, criticism, and you make all of us look bad in comparsion to the rest of the human race. (What have we learnt from this? We find assholes and idiotic fanboys EVERYWHERE, from the cream of the crop, to the bottom of the barrel.)

I’m a wuss and I comment on ADD sometimes, so I’m using a secret name here.
I never got into Suzumiya Haruhi. Watched the first few eps, was BLEH at it, didn’t finish the series (somewhere in my stack of CDs) and I didn’t really understand the hype and popularity behind it.
To top it all, I hate Hirano Aya. I just hate anything that’s over-hyped heh. (Okay, reason #1 was because I dislike girls who act cute because that’s so faaaaake and Hirano Aya = act cute) I’m waiting for her to fall from popularity! Old-time seiyuu for the win.

I’m glad you consider this project a waste. What people seem to be obsessed about is an anime, just another anime, and just becuase Haruhi is a “God” in this anime (and the animation quality is higher than average), we have this cult following. A tiny fraction watch anime. Isn’t images about the world, historical sites, the people living in it, and such more important than a silly anime and its “God”?
Unfortunately, nothing will stop people from continuing this mess.

I can understand something like this annoying you- for me it’s Star Wars fans who take their fandom seriously that annoy me- but while “Haruhiists” are taking their like of the series further than you think they should, I don’t know that it is really so objectionable as you’re saying here. Maybe I’ve just somehow missed the worst of it.
Just my opinion on the matter, but I think “can you prove that?” is a bad response to a comment like “Haruhi sucks” (which is a flame itself- an insult with no reasoning offered for it); a better response would be “well, that’s your opinion, but I think that the show’s really creative and funny” or something. Just felt it should be said ^^
You’re worried about giving people who’ll see the Time Capsule a bad first impression of humanity- well, I can certainly see why you’d devote a blog entry of this intensity at the Harhiists. I mean, there are political policies and parties, and military practices, and action groups and ALL sorts out there doing things that would *really* give a bad first impression of humanity, but I’m sure none of their members would post photos of their symbol in the “faith” or “hope” or “love” or “fun” sections. I’m sure the Haruhiists are the biggest threat to humanity that will submit images to the Time Capsule.

I believe that annotated/connected to that is the freedom to do as he pleases (for as long as the perpetrator/actor doesn’t directly or indirectly physically or emotionally hurt someone) . Dude, you are taking the whole thing too seriously, I believe that haruhiism is something for the fans to have fun with, perhaps a way to remember a short series? Nevertheless, you yourself should more or less understand the nature of fanboys, not to mention their actions. If you really hate it, just ignore it, there is no need to make a big fuss out of the whole thing. Why add oil to the fire when you don’t even have the means to put out the fire before adding the oil in? I hope you get my drift…….

But comment 38 is rather interesting – imagine if mankind got obliterated somehow, and this time capsule is the most prominent thing left. I’m sure that whoever discovers it will be having a rather untrue view of how life was really like on earth.
It’s not only Haruhiism – there could be tons of other similar gags being pulled on it. Perhaps the only thing we will have preserved will be our pop culture. But perhaps that’s the true purpose of the time capsule – a snapshot of the internet – everything from the formal, to the casual, to the downright bottom-of-barrel.

Well, leaving aside what the “desu-desu” and “sage goes on the mail field” people out there think about Haruhiism, i think a true haruhiist wouldn’t need to flame or prove that you are wrong. I mean, a true haruhiist could care less what you or me or none else thinks, because he follows the path of Haruhi, she for who mere mortals are garbage and don’t deserve attention (unless they can serve a purpose, like giving MORE screen to haruhiism, even if it’s on the negative side).
On the post:
I don’t think you will be able of creating the same level of flame-wars insulting SHnY than what you would get doing the same for Naruto, DBZ, Evangelion… anything mainstream, because most Haruhi fans couldn’t care less anyways, they are just having fun, and are conscious of that.

Suzumiya Haruhi.
It’s a work of fiction. And it’s a damn good one. Better than everything out there. Hmm, it’s a damn simple series that can be psychologically and philosophically analyzed in every fucking aspect. And that’s what’s so great about Suzumiya Haruhi.
While Evangelion puts the religious nonsense on top, in Suzumiya Haruhi it’s all on the background. It’s a damn romantic comedy after all.

Also, Mayu proves that most Singaporeans are easily suckered into pretty much anything.
Also, I have real respect for real women. They do a lot of stuff and are not credited for it. Like childbirth for example. Anime characters don’t deserve half as much respect. A quarter, if it’s a well-written, well-rounded (character-wise), and multfacted character, which the novels portray quite well (barring the many parts where the author lost it and went Yuki is Moé for a book), but not half as much respect for real women.
I hate people who shove their opinions and attitudes down my throats for a good reason. And I’m sick of all this fanboyism and elitism as well. No one respects the companies or creative talent who try their very best and worst to bring anime to the masses. Hell, we tried to copyright cosplay for a bit. I’m tired of humanity flushing themselves down the collective gutter because of stupid little things like this. And I’m tired of people telling me Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is a must watch and I shouldn’t bash it.
When I hang out with Tsubaki, tj_han, DM and the rest of the aniblogger community, I feel really happy and contented. We are all doing our best to promote animation in our own ways, and we are all kinda intelligent about it. And then I hang out with the people in my club, and then I run into the stupid fanboys which make up nearly half of the damn club. Or rather, the next generation of stupid fanboys. They don’t understand shit about market economics, copyright laws, the very people who try their best and worst to bring them what they like, motherfuckers who are proud to call themselves idiotic fanboys and embarrass themselves in public showing off their silly merchandise, people who only care about themselves and not about others, people who are willing to break the law to do what they like, people who deserve to be castrated and not reproduce.
DM had good intentions, I know that. He’s not like them, I admit.I had overreacted when I saw some of the faggots praising him for a job well done. He deserves a far higher praise than from those stupid fanboys.
I’m not going to say “My Blog, My Rules” because that’s gonna make me like them. What I will say is this: You are free to lay scorn, heap praise, or anything in between. If you don’t like what I say, critique away. You like what I write, keep the praises short and the critiques long. I appeal to not just a limited audience, but to a far bigger audience than I know possible. I will do everything in my power to try to at least make my readers happy, but I do not promise all of my posts will please all of you.
And as a sidenote, I don’t promote actual rape. That is illegal and does not appeal to feminists. Raping of fictional characters is still morally wrong, but hey, thanks for pointing that out. You really shouldn’t look at Japanese porn doujins, then.

I used to be a free thinker, but I was introduced to the great world of Haruhiism, and now, my friends are trying to prove to me everyday that Haruhi is not God (Which she most omnipotently is (did I use that right?)) You should watch the Melancholt of Haruhi Suzumiya more often. If you still flame Haruhiism, I’d say, what’s your name, go someplace, and I’ll send a letter opener right between your eyes. Haruhiism rocks and that is FINAL! We have our own opinion on the matter, and if we choose to believe in it, you have no irght to flame it. It’s like Muslims flaming Christianity. You know bungee jumping, karaoke, theme parks or baseball matchs, all things that i do not enjoy and that look silly to me;

Haruhiism is a common topic, forums about haruhiism are gathering places, practicing her religion a silly ritual: i seriously doubt that the majority of them researchs true virtues and a principle of existence in Haruhi Suzumiya. If they do, my praises for their force of will to get good things out of a silly anime, if they do not, they are just having fun and im happy for them.
