God I'm so fucking pissed over this obviously useless debate over whose epenis is bigger. It's one vicious cycle that does not seem to end, no matter how hard you try.

People, people, when will you realize that hype is opinion made by people and cannot be fully trusted? Just like any source of information, we must seek out the facts in any piece of information we find, and try to locate bias whenever possible. In fact, the only way to truly understand if a series is truly wonderful or extremely crappy is to go WATCH THE FUCKING SHOW YOURSELF. Fan opinion is obviously skewed so much to one extreme it cannot be fully trusted. Of course, there are a few people who are able to give us a fairly balanced account of what's good to watch, but then again, their tastes are a whole lot different from YOU, THE VIEWER.

Here's my comment on the damn issue. Taken straight from Jason's take on the whole thing.

Hype is what you make of it. Cut through the hype and get to the facts. Hype is a person’s opinions on any matter. It is impossible to trust a person’s opinions, even if they run in similar lines, because whatever experiences a person has is unique only to him/her. The best way to gauge a work is to experience it, then see if you like it or not. Like it or not, it’s the only proven method of seeing if you like a series or not. As a rule of thumb, I usually measure hype as a means to see what is popular, and nothing else.
The way I see it, we will never agree on which series is overrated, and which is not. Let us drop this arguement and turn to much better things to write about, like how Oyashiro is really Wallachia from Melty Blood.

You want examples? I'll give you one.

During the Battle of Tukkayid, we see the Clans, with the exception of Clan Wolf, Ghost Bear, and Jade Falcon, getting their butts kicked multiple times. And why? Because the Clans hyped themselves too much. Buoyed with their earlier successes, and to a greater extent, their disdain for the Inner Sphere MechWarriors, and the fact that they were technologically superior and had better MechWarriors in their 'Mechs, they thought they were extremely superior, and thought they were able to crush the ComStar Forces. Even sending in a taskforce to see the condition of the Inner Sphere after the Succession Wars didn't stop them from overhyping themselves. In fact, it was this hype that caused them to lose the Battle of Tukkayid. Hell, I've most probably missed the nadir jump point, but the fact remains.

In fact, I see this all the time when it comes to video games and consoles. All the XBoX fanboys go "LOL XBOX IS BETTAR" while the Sony fanboys go "LOL PLAYSTATION IS BETTAR". It's so sickening when these fanboys try to justify their inane comments with even more inane comments, when they can't even construct a convincing arguement why their favorite console/game is better than the other console/game. I've always thought we anime bloggers were more mature than this, but it seems we're nothing more than more loquacious versions of these console fanboys. I'm having a naggy feeling Blizzard was right when they mentioned in StarCraft(Brood Wars Expansion Storyline) that sentient beings will fight no matter what. Because we are sentient. And being sentient, it means we all have a unique opinion about how things work. And since no two opinions can be considered the same, BOOM FISTICUFFS HAPPEN.

Dammit, all this makes me so angry, I wanna buttfuck Archer. Hard.
