Blogger creates meme, watches as it goes out of control

THE INTERNET – Local married blogger ghostlightning1 has created an evil meme that is currently propagating in this comment thread2. “It would appear that my meme idea is beginning anew,” notes formerly respected evolutionary biologist Pritchard Bawwwwwwwkins3, as he continued see how the meme grew from a single comment to devouring the entire thread.

Ghostlightning was unavailable for comment, due to him being devoured by the meme before our reporters could ask for one.

1 Who is the owner for We Remember Love, but seriously, he’s married.
2 Yeah, digitalboy IS talking about Lain, but who cares? MEME.
3 References and allegations to people and reputations still extant or otherwise is purely coincidental. The writer takes no responsibility for these coincidental occurrences.

This just in: Crayon Shin-chan creator found dead

Taken from Canned Dogs.

Crayon Shin-chan creator Usui Yoshito has been missing since the 11th of September after he told his family that he was going mountain hiking in Mount Arafune, and an unidentified body was found on the 19th which has now been confirmed by the police to be the body of Usui Yoshito.

It is believed he had fallen from the Tomoiwa cliff which was near the top of the mountain, his body was found about 120 meters below the cliff. There are no railings around the cliff, but it’s not near the hiking course and there have not been any accidents in that area recently.

Usui goes mountain climbing on a frequent basis apparently.

Via: Mainichi

There’s only one reaction I can safely say about my reaction to this, and that’s HOLY SHIT.

We can only hope he’s in a better place. A much better place.

I think a lot of people are going to miss him too. And the Crayon Shin-chan series.

A Conspiracy of Dickbutts – Attitudes in anime blogging

I’m sorry, but at this point of time, the only thing I feel about the entire notion of blogging well, and the not-so-recent flareup over accreditation of fanarts to be..

pants_on_head_alien_by_DONGSDONGS

BTW it says “PANTS ON HEAD RETARDED”

As per usual, all credits to arts are Jeanstealer/Blueflower1, Genestealer from Games Workshop2 (DON’T SUE ME BRAH), general memefaggotry from 4chan’s /tg/3, which is a pretty cool place.

I mean, it’s one thing to censure4 and heap scorn over5 the worst aspects of the fandom, but it’s another to pretend you are either on a moral high horse6, or to insult someone who clearly tries his best to keep up the high standards you want to impose onto the entire fandom.7 Standards you jolly well have to adhere to, commenting, posting or otherwise.

Because if you don’t, you’re a fucking hypocrite and I call bullshit.

Then again, by doing so, you betray your attitude towards blogging of anime as well. Considering that blogging is pretty much about you (and your interests), how one blogs and comments betrays their attitude towards their hobbies.

We take wah8 and Colony Drop9 as our first examples.

As we all know, wah can be extremely insightful at times10, but when it comes to issues he wants to have a say in, at the very least he admits (usually) that he’s not much better. HOWEVER, when reading his latest rants on accreditation11, for some PANTS ON HEAD RETARDED reason, he simply refuses to acknowledge that he’s not much better, but instead, rides on his fucking moral high horse as if Japan was the greatest culture ever. Not that it’s wrong to do so if you do actually HAVE the moral high ground, but the way he does it…

Ugh. It’s like trying to read through an Owen S12 post, but a lot shorter, to the point, and more importantly, it pisses me off. I’m not too sure if that’s his schtick, since this kind of thing can be easily faked, but it galls me that one who can write is resorting to what seems to be TROLLING just to get his point across.

It’s one thing to get your point across, wah, but do have to make me want to strangle you half the time you do so?

Colony Drop writes some of the best troll articles ever13. They’re actually great writers and they’ve admitted that trolling is their schtick to draw in more readers14, not to mention the fact that they have great taste in anime15. And they claim that they want to show the world that it’s possible to write about a creepy subculture WITHOUT using the norms for anime blogging OR being PANTS ON HEAD RETARDED about it16 (which ironically, is what I do for the most part, save for the PANTS ON HEAD RETARDED part. Once in a while, I like to let my inner Cirno out.)

Unfortunately, at least one of them has a massive redwood stuck up his posterior17, for he’s going about insulting at least one person for some minor aesthetic reason both parties don’t agree about (PANTS ON HEAD RETARDED excuse for trolling, even). While proceeding to spout stuff like professionalism, ethics, proper bibliography, and the like, while blatantly ignoring the implications of mentioning such things, especially the first one18. I call extreme fucking hypocrite bullshit on this.

You go about doing something different from the crowd, do it well, and impose high standards on yourself. Good for you. You’d better jolly well adhere to them high standards, for commenting and blogging are linked to the same person.

Want to know what attitudes to NOT adopt when blogging about anime? I got two for you: DarkMirage19 and Owen S20.

DarkMirage is, unfortunately, or fortunately, Singapore’s most famous blogger for all things anime (and obviously NOT Momotato21, even though he’s been here longer, by dint of non-citizenship). Why is he famous? For putting what amounts to public opinion in a nice, easy-to-read package that hints at his excellent education and obnoxious attitude22. Unfortunately, his vaunted education didn’t teach him about acting nice or humble to people, because he’s got the personality of a prima donna (read: obnoxious fucking faggot who thinks everyone should bow to him just because he has a better education than most people).

When I blog, I don’t need that kind of attitude. I want people who love their hobbies, and are willing to write about it in a manner that may offend, but people can generally see what’s the hype all about. I DON’T need to act all high-falutin’ and pretend to be a celebrity, even though I am one, because I’m doing it to promote or give exposure to my hobbies, and NOT myself.

And why shouldn’t you adopt Owen S’ attitude to blogging? Because, quite simply put, in addition to the prima-donna attitude mentioned above, he adds to it the intention to HURT.  He trolls (in over 3000 words), in a manner similar to Fundamentalist Christian Evangelists23 or New Atheist Evangelists24, not to entertain, but simply because HE CAN, AND LOVES TO DO SO. Worst part of it is, people think he has a point when the only point he wants to make is that he’s simply better than you and he’ll hurt you to prove it. Someone read the SHIT he puts out and tell me if there’s even a tiny point of light.

…It’s pretty obvious that blogging doesn’t always mean you have to troll all the time, unless it’s for entertainment purposes. Like lolikit25. He trolls to entertain. And they be the funniest things ever. But the good Doctor is a class act; not many can match his consistency. And BTW, at his peak, he was very interested in anime.

And with all this ranting over what NOT to follow, who then should you follow? Momotato, for one. I’ll give a shout out to ghostlightning (with wife), Kurogane, Iknight, omo, jpmeyer and Hinano, just for starters.26 Doesn’t matter how you blog (style), it’s your attitude that matters, and most of all, interest.  Sure, we’ll make mistakes from time to time, but the thing is that if we really like to blog about what we want, mistakes rarely matter, and commentators, as inbred this part of the Internet may be, are (usually) helpful enough to nudge anyone back onto the right track.

I don’t need no stinkin’ pinko prima-donnas, trolls, hypocrites, or people going on on moral high-horses, I need people who are interested, nay, excited about the good parts of otaku culture, and write about it, so that the world may know. It is also, ironically, our job to censure, bring to the light, and point out the bad parts about it27, in the hopes that things WILL get better.

In short, I care; do you?

Have I mentioned that Hinagiku X Hayate or Hinagiku X Nishizawa is/are my OTPs? This also implies that Hinagiku is my favorite character in the whole series. (Ayasaki Hermoine does not count. That is Hayate in drag.)
