Let’s get a couple of things clear.
February 22, 2008
First of all, for anyone who hasn’t noticed, Bandai Entertainment and Bandai Visual are not two different companies. They belong to the same parent company, Namco Bandai Holdings, Limited. That means if someone inside Bandai Visual fucks up, someone in Namco Bandai Holdings, Limited, fucked up as well. So don’t pretend that Bandai Visual and Bandai Entertainment are two different companies when both companies belong to the same PARENT COMPANY. If Bandai Visual gets bad press, Namco Bandai Holdings, Limited, should also get some of the bad press. (Which also posits a suggestion: A total boycott on all things with the Bandai logo (and ideally, the Namco label as well.) on it. Model Kits, anything Gundam, Devil May Cry, you get the picture.)
Secondly, about Japan finally cracking down on doujin games, well, who didn’t see it coming? Patrick Macias (O HAY MR. MACIAS AGAIN) sure friggen did, albeit in a much different way. And for Pete’s sake, Shingo reported on the crackdowns as early as June (I think). It’s only a matter of time before they turn Otakon, Animé Expo, or Comiket into bloodbaths. For Prohibition eventually leads into total murder. Since people are the root cause to his sticky wicket, why not listen to Nicollo Macheveli and put some fear into your customers, aka, killing all those who oppose your pricing schemes and decrees. Once they realize that copyright infringement leads to death, they’ll never use the Internet again. :V (Yes I know he only mentioned the elimination of all opposition, but when your opposition spans the globe, killing only the bare minimum gets tricky, and you either get creative or up the body count.)
Thirdly, I finished Utawarerumono, and it was awesome. A shame Leaf loev scifi too much to drop it from the game, tho :V. Also in no particular order:
- Yay linear narrative
- Touka is love :3
- Some minor BAWWWWage at the end
- TOUKA ENTERS HAKUORO’S ROOM WITH RAPE IN HER EYES
- Oboro is gay and a joke device. No rly. His archer trap twin servants don’t help his “I’m not homosexual” cause much either.
- Touka Touka Touka :3
- Mutsumi is sexy armpits and BAWWWWWWWWWWW :V

And yet the myth of “Cool Japan” still continues in Japan…

“Now I woldn’t go as far as to diss Bandai Entertainment…”
That was what I was about to say before I realized that everything they did past Victory Gundam sucks rear end now. Let’s just call them “Banco.” They’re the new Fox Network in terms of the “Lowest Common Denominator” type of entertainment we’re getting.
And those who fling themselves toward “underdog / small companies” like Kyoto Anime should realize that they’re doing the same thing as Banco.
I mean… If you want entertainment, take a look at half of what Gonzo does. Check out “Glass Fleet.” Why get horny over Kyou’s thigh(s) when you can have a good laugh at Michel’s smiling face?

Agreed but the only bad part about it being a linear narrative was that you could not have a Touka route! Other than that I liked the game as well and my advice is to stay away from any of the hard modes past 1.

I don’t like the bad press from a small sub company harms the parent company argument especially if the sub company is small and international. I really don’t think that if someone gives a bad review of a roller coaster in Hong Kong Disneyland that we’ll actually hear about it states and Disney will actually care. It’s not like someone’s going to die with BVUSA’s business model… allegedly.
All company execs care about is the bottom line and apparently they think that they can make money this way in the states. And even if BVUSA ends up croaking (as all of us predict will happen), it’s such a small portion of their corporate portfolio that the parent company will probably won’t feel anything when they ax the BVUSA arm off their body.

I await the creation of the Fansub Enforcers, created in the knowledge that it is best to utterly destroy a man or not touch him at all; half measures leave him aggrieved and still powerful.
Machiavelli as a model for copyright enforcement. Why do I find this plausible?
